GSXR 750, bandit 600 CDI swap

Hey guys and Girls,

New comer here, I have a issue and unfortunately that brings me here (however I feel like this is a nice place :).

I got a gsxr 750 1990 L engine in my bandit with the gsxr 750 cdi 1990 to go with. But how do I get the Gsxr cdi to work in the bandit 600 wiring harness? What wiring from the bandit 600 harness goes where on the GSXR 750 CDI.

Finally, if the case is of the using the bandit 600 CDI wouldn't the ignition curve be wrong and potientally harmfull?

Any help will be appreciated.

Cheers.

P.S: And hello all

Well.....

Even if the connectors do fit each other:

You would need to have  the electrical drawings of both the 600 and the 750.

Repin the 600 wires into 750 connector plug. The colors usally do not change but functionally compare each wire if you are set on using the 750 cdi.

Another option would be to use the complete 600 loom plus the "plugged" components and craft them on the 750 engine.

As in: swap the 600 signal generator over to the 750 . Other parts like the dynamo might just benefit from a plug swap.

As the 600 engine is smaller the redline probably is set higher. A potentential danger would be overreving the 750 engine during a misshift.  How big of a danger?... that is debateable. As for ignition curve... theoretically...yes.. real life... doubtful

Many people have stuck in a different/bigger engine in their bike.

I try to use as much parts original to the engine. That would include the loom , cdi and even the control switches on the handle bar.

That is because i like the simplicity of that approach.

Welcome btw.

Hey Blubber and Askamaskinservice.

Thanks for the replies.

I got Haynes manuals of both the Bandit 600 and GSXR 750. I have been looking at the wiring diagrams all night :,( (pls send help)

From what I can see, the wiring for the coils would be fine. They can swap over. It is just other stuff, and one I will have to merge into the same pin as another on the bike.

You made a very fair point however, loads of people have done this mod, so there is ether the bandit 600 cdi works, or the GSXR 750 will somehow work in the bike.

If I where to use the band CDI, what is the rev limit of the GSXR 750 L 1990?

As far as I believe, it revs higher than the older slab sides.

Cheers.

Welcome to OSS ;) don't forget a intro in general section, helps to get people departing info (but like beer xD)

Try the search bit with bandit/blandit ignition switch etc, b6/b12 have a 6 wire ignition as other (gsxr) have 4 wire ignition (this will be revealed in a search) the gsxr cdi won't work on a bandit and the other way round.

I know the teapot triggers will work on a b6 so I'd just use all the b6 bits on the 750 engine, plug and play then.

I think the 750 red line at about 10,500? b6 are more 11,000

Don't forget the Read The Fucking Rules RTFR

And have a good look at Frankenstein page's kids of very good info there.

So,

I have decided to use the Bandit 600 CDI, after all blubber made a good point of many have done this, most have just kept the CDI's.

Anyway, the only thing I have changed was the alternator from the GSXR 750 to the Bandit's one on the engine. It matches and has even the same wires. Everything was connected to the bike. Press the starter motor button. BAM, everything goes off.

Turns out the starter motor is caput from the GSXR engine and the bandit one is slightly different.  :TB:
Eblag here I come.
