Any known faults/weak points on these gearboxes?

Yes the idiot owners who wheelie them everywhere and try yo change into 2nd with no clutch and the front in the air

The gearboxes can be noisy,(whining), but in general they are excellent, I have one with 76000 miles and it’s sweet,also had one with 105000 miles and that was sweet too,in contrast to that I had one with 25000 miles and it had the noisiest 3rd gear I’ve ever heard!

3rd gear driven is the Achilles heal for all of the Suzuki in line four 1100 oil cooled engines.

Never had any problems with mine ever...keep changing the oil. 

Geared wrong those bikes, i went one tooth up on the front and its spot on...you need to do a tiny bit of filing on a bit of the casing to make it fit

Some seem to get problems while others do not, my original 98 Bandit owned 21 years now and with 168k kilometers has had no problems whatsoever . A recently aquired  2000 model showing only 62k  has a noticably noisier transmission especially in third.

Do we think a stubby can would help reduce the unwanted trans noise .......
