  1. In normal application, all things being equal, a 4-2-1 system would give more mid-range than a 4-1 IIRC. I'm with you on the looks front though!
  2. Thanks for the info everyone ... I'll shall read and consider what to do with my Kat ... off to read the old site thread. Cheers @KATANAMANGLER
  3. Has anyone done any research into later oil cooled motors e.g. GSXR1100M/N. Especially exhaust header diameters and results on the dyno. I'm particularly interested in anyone who has played with exhausts on a 1216 with higher compression. Enquiring minds and all!
  4. I had an absolute mare sorting that out. I have bandit wheels, TL1000S forks and managed to mate the speedo drive - we managed to bore it and take the inside diameter out enough to use the TL1000S front wheel spindle. So if we can solve it .. I reckon you should be fine! Measure, measure again ... and work out what needs to happen. details on my build thread. hope that helps - there's also more details on my blog - see my sig!
  5. Bandit are defo 36mm. I was running some on my GSXR1100M engine. Worked ok but needs an air box really.
  6. Anything will fit with a time and patience!
  7. .... and how fookin' young do Whitham and Huewen look?
  8. Brilliant ... must stick that date in the diary!
  9. Here you go - taken yesterday. GSXR1100M motor.
  10. I know I know ... spares are always good. New head is mint. So all good.
  11. Well bugger me sideways ... it is an M/N head. Right ... contacting seller of and N head. Make sure that one is fine .. and we are good to go.
  12. In my defence this is the first large bore Suzuki I have worked with that wasn't a 2 stroke. Much simpler those 2 stroke machines ... it's the future you know!
  13. In another turn of events - I cannot see the engine at the mo ... we were discussing over the phone the relative merits of the L vs the M. Looks like the head has shims but has 36mm carb boots. ... so possibly an American M or N or a UK M or N which has had 36mm boots fitted at some point? ! Bloody hell I really should pay more attention - there's a moral in here somewhere! 1st job this morning is to work out which engine this is!
  14. Here you - do you reckon these are OK to ignore then?
  15. Really ... I'll check again tomorrow ... we were talking about the crack coming from the valve seat ... but cannot remember where to. I'll get photos tomorrow. So if it is you describe, then leaving them with a 1216 doing say 150hp at the rear would be OK?
  16. Just had exactly the same thought process. Saw a N top end without cams but with valves train. Then thought about having to source cams, getting them matched, and while it has better port angles, but what's that worth in real money for the cost and pain of trying to source cams & shims etc. I reckon we'll repair the L cylinder head, added 40mm boots, and then open ports up to match the FCR39s - should work well enough, we are planning on port work anyhow ... fingers crossed the cracks are repaired well - but I'm confident we'll do it and cheaper than the alternative. Worth a bash before I go source another L cylinder head.
  17. Ignore that --- just looked ... massively different cams :o( More money!! May have to invest time and repair the existing heads!
  18. II00L M or N for me ... L I can repair. M or N because they have a better port shape and will match the inlet side to the FCR carbs and 40mm rubbers. So I am having a cam grind .. how different are the cams?
  19. Started a 1216 and the 1100L motor I have has a number of issues with the cylinder head. repairable, but considering options to buy an 1100M/N cylinder head. - does anyone know if the 1100M/N cylinder head bolts to the 1100L barrels? Anything worth mentioning?
  20. Big thumbs up. Spike (Cambridge M/Cs) is running the same class this year on his prilly mille. I've promised to come along at some point to help out - so will defo come look you up.
  21. @dupersunccheers matey. I reckon I have the 1100L motor now that i think of it. Going to match the inlets anyhow during the 1216, so will just add 41CO inlets to the list!
  22. I went to fit my FCR39 carbs as a test fit prior to taking out the engine for a 1216 kit fitting and it looks like the GSXR110M (91) motor I have has the 36mm rubbers fitted. I need the 40mm rubbers. Some research has only confused me further. Parts fiche suggests that the proper part is 13101-41C00, 13102-41C00, 13103-41C00, and 13104-41C00 for the 40mm variant carbs. However Suzuki performance spares shows that the part is 13101-40C00, 13102-40C00, 13103-40C00, and 13104-40C00 at http://www.suzukiperformancespares.co.uk/product/suzuki-gsxr1100-m-n-91-2-inlet-rubbers,-set-4/3530/ and parts fiche show both numbers as being the right ones! However this fly's in the face of the fact that the ones on there are 13110-40C0 (36mm variant) - which further research suggest are discontinued and became the 13101-40C00 apparently - the very same number that Suzuki performance spares suggest are the 40mm ones. So friggin' confusing! I kind of figure I need the 13101-41C00 variant - but just thought I'd check! If you have an oil-cooled 1100 running 40mm mikuni's - can you let me know the part number on one of the inlets please or offer up a part number you know works with FCR39s.

More pictures from the other side please?
  24. So what is specific to an EFE crank over a GSX1100ES crank (at least I think it's an ES engine as it had gear position sensor on it - but never did come to a definitive decision). Is it just the 20mm pin, or is the crank stronger etc?
  25. Now that is interesting ... I have a GSX motor on the bench and the GSXR1127 sitting in my Kat. I plan to take the 1127 out to 1216 at some point once the handling is sorted, and given I have a set of 1260 barrels, it would make sense to re-ring the 1127 slugs and combine with the 1260 barrels on the GSX lump perhaps! Anyhow ... I have enough project to be getting on with - but in the future should a frame t arrive in the garage that can take the air-cooled lump, who knows what may come of it!
