  1. GSXR1100M - the clutch is barely disengaging (so might just need bleeding again) - but there is a definite background graunchy noise. Is this likely to be just plate wear, or are there other things I need to look out for when I get in there to check? Graunching seems to be on a neutral throttle and noticeable when blipping in neutral.

    525 chain

In truth it's probably the torque that's the limiting factor ... but as you say - 520 chains are so good nowadays that you don't need to worry.

    525 chain

It all depends on the quality of the chain. I have a Regina Gold race 520 on my bike. It hasn't hardly stretched and I have 140 hp.
  4. Not wanting to put a spanner in the works - I have just had a rewire. Prior to rewiring the bike would charge at 15.4V and is now a perfect 14.3V. The old loom with all those poor connections vs a new loom is night an day. I hadn't realised quite how much corrosion, poor connections, and a failing loom can cause issues. So while the relay mechanism works, it might be masking an underlying issue. My reg/rec/alternator are good. Perhaps wires like this may be lurking about your loom and always worth a check first.
  5. 10K it is then until the motor comes apart and the crank can be balanced etc - in the meantime I will keep it in mind when we do a cam sweep on the dyno.
  6. I've set an arbitrary 10.5K limit on mine - that was based on the fact power was tailing off by then anyhow. good to know 11K is a bad bad norty number!
  7. You missed out the bit about having a small bladder and the need to go wee wee as soon as you zip up your race leathers. You also missed out the sudden desire to sleep and inability to function that onsets the moment the final checkered flag of the day is waved.
  8. I was in Japan spring 2018 .. and got talking to a chap in one of the shops there. His English was really not bad. His view was that bikes from the 70s, 80s and 90s were commanding massive prices. Special build "modernised" stuff, especially RR type models command such a premium as to be almost out of reach of anyone but the richest peeps. He was blow away by how cheap relatively stuff in the UK was - to the point he was saying he really needed to think about finding a contact to re-import bikes back to Japan. It all got a bit confusing but it seemed to be something to do with registering bikes over a certain size in CC's and age. They needed to be made "special/custom" to get round some Japanese rules to be able to have them on the road or somesuch. I got the impression that the older the bike the more expensive it was to keep it on the road as they yearly testing process was prohibitive? Mushi-san was a lovely bloke with an old BSA Bantam brit bike and a Harley he was very very proud of. Frankly it looked like a turd to me … but it would be a strange world if we all liked the same thing.
  9. I've been looking everywhere for some adjusters like the gilles adjusters that bolt into the bandit 12 swingers and provide the bobbin mounts for a rear stand. @370stevehas a lovely setfor his swingers and I thought I'd go buy a similar set for my bike. However, I cannot find a set for the bandit12 swingarm. Some thing like tis ... anyone have a link for a possible source.
  10. Sounds a little fat - but once on song FCRs rock - I've got 39s on my with the following settings: 55 pilots 150 main jets (started with 160 and went down to these) EMP jet needles (clip @4) 200 main air jets 100 pilot air jets (1 turn out) It still feels a little fat - but the exhaust is the issue on mine. Either way you are going to love the hit from FCRs.
  11. So ... after pouring over parts fiches - bandit sump, oil pick up/strainer, and one of the internal tubes appear different (left one sits lower). Just waiting on the pick up/strainer to arrive - then I can decide whether the gasket will suffice or I'll need a new one (Bandit12 or GSXR1100M)
  12. Just a quick check after conversation with Racefit - they have suggested fitting a Bandit 12 sump and pickups to the GSXR1100 engine I am using. Can I check - do all Bandit 12 sumps and pick ups fit all GSXR1100 oil cooled motors? Or is it just say the Mk on the 1052cc motors? I am looking for a sump and pick ups for my 1100M motor (1127) ... which should I go for?
  13. I'm with you on that - Probably fine when knew ... but more likely as carbs get older - especially with Mikuni as they do not have slide bearings. besides an universal cable and push pull throttle kit isn't that expensive in the grand scheme of things.
  14. Are you sure it's running fine when it starts? e.g. here's mine starting for the first time after the rebuild ...as it fires it sounds OK until you try to rev it. This was running on less than 4 cylinders at the time ...
  15. Awesome results. When do you lose the rookie bib? Is it still 10 races over at least 4 tracks.
  16. That does seem like float heights or sticking floats ... initially it ran OK, then got worse. If you leave it a minute does is fire and run sweet for a few seconds? Any differences in temp across the headers?
  17. Lovely picture ... but not a video - you'll need to upload a vid to youtube and then paste the link. It should then display as a video here.
  18. Possibly maybe interested Kat x4
  19. Yup should bolt right up ... but you need the oil pick ups as well.
  20. I had exactly the same set up on my Kat. The carbs were not bandit but 1100K/L 36mm on pod filters. They popped and banged initially until we set float heights properly. Pretty sure they were 144 mains - though we would have jetted down for the Harris 4-1 which is pretty restrictive. As you can hear - not exactly healthy on first fire up.
  21. Isn't that always the way. You can be a complete trackway god and have your arse handed to you on a plate in short circuit racing. You can be friggin' quick and go play endurance and run out of steam after 10 laps as you realise the fast boys are just as quick as you, but allow the bike to do the work. You can learn to allow the bike to work, run lap times that match the quick guys, and have the bike explode on your second session with no options for redemption just because you didn't record or care about a torque setting.
  22. Racing ... it really is a roller coaster ride of highs and lows, expense and achievement. Well done for getting your arse out on track in a competitive situation ... I so miss all the banter, camaraderie, and sense of achievement. I don't miss the dislocations, broken bones, concussion and expense. GWS
