  1. So I took the balance springs out of the gap between 3/4 today and cyl 1 2 and 3 all sat closed on idle stop nicely and worked fine but 4 needed brute force to close. I cant see any burrs at all on the butterfly, there is slight sideways play on the shaft but I assumed this was required and the butterfly closing would centralise this. Im flat out of ideas here tbh.
  2. SO todays tinkering included stripping the bars off the rack, tweaking them slightly to make sure they are flat (well, they were only a touch out) I then bolted them back on with all 4 manifolds flat on a piece of glass (i hope Mrs VJ doesnt notice the smell of petrol on the bathroom scales) I still have a high idle problem though, it seems to only be on cyl 4 thats causing it as i can get the other 3 to close fairly tight when playing with the balance screws. also if I lean on the balance screw between 3 and 4 I can get it to idle sensibly as it closes butterfly 4. I cant see any imperfections or burrs in the throat or on the butterfly itself and for sanitys sake have checked the plugs which are looking spot on. is there any chance the butterfly has moved laterally at all? Cheers John
  3. Thats my thoughts captain chaos, Im thinking im going to replace all the screws holding the rack together with m5x10 cap heads and inspect a bar at a time for warpage, hopefully that'l sort it, if not im going to bodge a sidestand spring on there and just deal with a heavier throttle. It is a ratbike after all. Cheers VJ
  4. Problem happens even with no cable on. Sometimes it'l idle sensibly then sometimes it wont. Ive checked for air leaks but what keeps annoying me is with the idle screw all the way out i can play with the balance screws and get all 4 butterflys to close, I then refit the carbs, try it and get a high idle so then remove them and the butterflys are open. Is there any chance the rack is loose/twisted maybe?
  5. my bandit engined rat has got a high idle issue at the moment, Im just in the process of trying to work it out, carbs are clean, Ive taken the throttle cable off, backed the idle adjuster all the way off and still the butterflys are slightly open, not by a massive amount but I think this might be the cause of my high idle. Any idea on what can cause the butterflys to stick open? the throttles operate smoothly, the balancing screws arent siezed and it snaps back with good force but just wont fully close on all 4
  6. Whats the scrutineers like YJ? Id love to take my ratty teapot 6/12 around but im not sure it'l pass
  7. so, snapped and bent valve, cracked valve guide, cracked combustion chamber, dented piston. Fuck me these engines are strong considering it did 50 odd miles of commuting in that state
  8. I was riding and it dropped to 3 cyl, it then took me over a week of trial and error pissing around with spark and carb related stuff before I opened the lid to notice that a valve is snapped in half. Im fairly sure it'd run on 3 again if i bolted it back together now. Im just about to whip the head off for a full post mortem, If its suitably hilarious I may well post pictures. Cheers VJ
  9. My bandit 12 engined teapot fighter has snapped an inlet valve, from what I can see a locknut came loose, the adjuster span out and the valve promptly snapped, I assumed it was carbs as ive had issues before and managed to limp it around on 3 cylinders for a while but Ive got the valve cover off at the moment and its definitely snapped an inlet valve stem. So what are my options and how much time/money will they set me back? I fucking love this bike but she's already cost me a fair bit in the last few months and its starting to get painful on the wallet now. Cheers John
  10. Ive trimmed the leads a lot and they still seem to keep coming off so this time ive filled the rubber boot with sealant and hopefully that'l hold it on and keep the spark in. If that fails then i'll buy some newer coils i think. Cheers VJ
  11. So the coils on my b12 engined rat are pretty screwed and the leads keep coming off the plug caps. Im getting very tempted to swap but im looking for some advice. Should I go for stock coils, a dyna set or is it possible to wire it to suit coil on plug style coils? Im looking for reliability and cheapness over gucci status, it is a commuter hack after all. Cheers VJ
  12. I think the gearing commander website, al be it designed for sorting out final drive gearing, has a function for calculating the circumference of a tyre should you want to check johnr's idea, although my guess would be broadly simmilar
  13. New style nitromors is shite as they removed the main ingredient, however you can get it on its own on the evil

    My oil cooled chop

Cool loking bit of kit, I was a bit unsure about the riding position but I can imagine its quite fun to throw around with that position.

Yeah I know what you mean, id have thought they'd have employed someone with a little more relevant knowledge but at least they are learning.
  16. to be honest, even if they rectified every problem without delay or hassle id still not want to send my bike to them for anything.

hmm, robinsons foundry might be of some use, http://www.robinsonsfoundry.co.uk/content/pages/home/advanced-search.htm?search=23160-06B00&search_products=yes&search_pages=yes&search_groups=yes&search_new_bikes=yes&search_used_bikes=yes&match=all_words&submit.x=17&submit.y=11 b12 one is the same part number as rf9/gsx14 and the busa.
  18. Jeez, id be going apeshit if someone ballsed up that much
  19. looks awesome, old school cool with a modern twist

I think the bandit 1200 was 35mm, not 100% sure though
  21. So the slabby has the same size bearings and length apparently, Does anyone know if a slabby stem fits into a bandit yoke as I might be able to find a slabby stem easier? Cheers VJ
