  1. Did you build the engine yourself ? Have the liners been shaved on the outside ? At the moment im stripping my cases to get better measurements.
  2. No, that was not my question, the cylinder base gasket (and head gasket etc) surface is inclined to the horizontal engine mating surface between top and bottom engine half. Will have to measure this, and adjust milling machine table, to be able to bore vertically towards the crankshaft.
  3. i bring this thread up now, because i´m playing with my big block and would like to fit this in V719 engine cases (Bandit 1200 and Inazuma), which should be a street-sleeper with no external oil lines to the head. Is there a preferred model where there is enough meat around the oil feeds, that you don´t break through when machining for big block ?
  4. good evening, is it possible to run the bigger cylinder sleeves with big block (outside diameter 89mm) without getting in the oil gallery on top engine cases ? I know it can be done with the the smaller liners (OD approx 87,1 mm). Looks really tight to me, oil holes are 4mm and at an angle so probably interfere with sleeve cutout. Is it possible to shave off some meat on the #1 und #4 sleeve outside to clear ? Any hints and infos ? Also: what is the angle of the cylinder relative to gasket mating surface between upper/lower half ?
  5. Most important part atm for me is recommended clearence between piston and bore to tell the machine shop.
  6. What you guys use for clearence bore/piston ? Want to get a set of barrels bored out, was thinking 0.06mm ? Also, does anyone know compression ratio on otherwise stock Bandit with Busa pistons ?
  7. A stone might have banged the dents in piston and head
  8. Usually around 280-300 degree celsius on tickover

    Murrays Carbs.

    Funny way for de-tuning....
  10. Too lean, mixture screws or pilot jet richer Thats not backfire btw, its farting in the exhaust
  11. Those O-Rings might also have been old, and just packed up...nothing unheard of, happened before, and will happen again. Maybe replace with better material - Viton etc

    Swirl's Harris

there is always something to do on hard ridden old bikes ! I am amazed how you keep the tank stable on the bike, i always take off the two fuel hoses on my Harris, and then lift it off for working on the carbs. Have you ever thought about trying EFI ? From what i see, you seem to be a really good builder and analyze all problems really well (and consequently fix them), i really take my hat for that - it's what i also try to achieve: analyze/assume/attack the problem
  13. Funny thing is: some parts get stiff over time, others won't get stiff after time....
  14. I have a 99 12 Bandit, which has an oil valve stem problem me thinks its oiling plug 1&2 when start up from cold, smokes, and plugs fire only when cap is removed/refitted, runs fine then. So i think of pulling the head, but as spring is approaching, i dont like to take the whole engine out. Is it do-able ? Lowering engine required ?
  15. Sorry, too long ago to remember details, but chain off rear sprocket, exhaust off, car jack under engine, and out with engine bolts. Not sure about rear top spindle thou, you will have to try
  16. Exactly....i once bought a 750 with molten airbox cheap...replacing it included a lot of nasty words.... Btw: the 1200 ran great with oem setup, und just a aftermarket silencer
  17. Nice one ! Can you share some details ?
  18. Good fun these airbox moves on the Inazuma 750 and 1200....to get them in/out without destroying you need to lower the engine in the frame......what a lot of shite work.....ask me how i know

No, not happening, Austrian vehicle authorities are not that easy to mess with, and my GSX 1100 will keep it's engine. I am more than happy to have a street legal bike, will not risk that.

    My noisy Harris

So, the story of me and this bike: I live in Austria, close to Vienna, and have always been a fan of motorcycles, especially of "Specials" Someday, this Harris with 750 GSX engine came up for sale in Vienna, completly disassembled, in boxes, but with full Austrian documents to get it on the road (this is very rare). I was the lucky one to buy it, and dragged it home, and after a while started to build it up again.

    More details yet to come....
  23. This weekend i made a testrun after carb jetting adjustments, did not pull cleanly before. So, the Yoshimura isn't quiet at all, but all of a sudden it started screaming loud, so pulled over to find this:
  24. Oh so tasty !!!!! Damn is that sexy
