  1. 350mm outside to outside measurement on my GS750 too, if that helps.
  2. Hi Dezza, thanks for your answer, I did do a search but nothing came up. I'll try again and see if I can find your thread, thank you. Interesting about you using normal Castrol grease, my first thought was that it would swell the rubber but I suppose that's not the case because they will be nitrile or something? I didn't buy a Pingel kit for my tap, I didn't see one of them when I looked, I bought a Tourmax kit. Partly because I've used their caliper kits in the past with good results, partly because they are made in Japan rather than China etc. Cheers, Brian.
  3. Thank you Rodneya, I'll be doing this over the next few days and I'll try your method. I hadn't thought about polishing the faces, seems like a good idea to me. The problem with mine is that it's stiff to operate and doesn't turn the fuel supply off even when it's turned to that direction. Hopefully a new seal & diaphragm kit will sort it. Cheers, Brian.
  4. Thank you Stevie B and Gixer1460. I've done as suggested and reset the adjustment from 1/2 turn to 1/4, and it's made a tremendous difference. I might try reducing it a bit more yet; as long as there's still a definite bit of clearance I can't see that it can do any harm can it? Also, I think that part of the problem is that the bike races a bit when I first start it, so today I let it warm up so that it'd tick over at about 1000rpm, maybe a bit less, before I put it in gear. I'm going to take the tank off to do the petrol tap soon, so I'll balance the carbs etc. while I'm at it. Thanks for helping, the problem is much improved now, more or less as good as I'd expect. Cheers, Brian.
  5. Just a quick question please. I've bought a rebuild kit for mine; is it best to lubricate the moving parts with red rubber grease, silicone grease, or no grease at all? Thank you.
  6. Thank you for replying StevieB. I'll reset the adjustment to 1/4 turn then, and try that. I'm out on it tomorrow, 150 miles or so, I'll see how I get on. Thank you
  7. Hi all, I have a problem with my 1979 GS750. The problem is clutch drag, but only when cold. I've stripped & cleaned the actuator, the cable is smooth and operates freely. I've adjusted it almost exactly as per the Suzuki workshop manual; the only difference is I have less than 4mm clearance at the lever to try and get it to open up a bit more. Oil is 10/40 motorcycle oil. The problem almost totally disappears when the bike warms up, it still clunks a bit into first but no more than lots of other bikes to be honest. The bike has done about 27k miles. It is (sorry...) standard spec except for Sito silencers. It had been standing almost unused for several years before I bought it. I've not done many miles on it since I bought it, maybe 800 at the most. The problem is maybe a little better, maybe I'm just getting used to it. It never slips or judders or anything else. Have any of you got any ideas as to what I can do to fix it please? Does it just need more use maybe? Or what? Thank you.
  8. Delkevic do a stainless 4 into 1 that might suit you, I think it's a reasonable price too:- https://delkevic.co.uk/suzuki-gs750-1977-79-full-4-1-stainless-steel-exhaust-classic-straight-silencer.html Brian.
  9. Brilliant SwissToni, that is exactly the one. And from this Eblag listing https://www.Eblag.co.uk/itm/99000-10105-00N-SUZUKI-VINTAGE-MOTORCYCLE-PAINT-PURE-ORANGE/253523042024?epid=701995059&hash=item3b07269ee8:g:6IQAAOSwSJVaulK7 it would appear that perhaps the spelling has been corrupted over the years. Either way, it looks as if the corrrect paint code is 00N. Just what I needed to get some touch up paimnt. Thank you very much, I really tried all over the net and I couldn't find it. Regards, Brian.
  10. Good morning, I have a 1979 registered GS750, originally supplied to the Italian market. Tank and tailpiece are orangey red, solid paint rather than metallic or pearl. Does anyone know the paint code please? Or where it is on the bike? Or a colour from something else that is a good match? Thank you, Brian.
  11. Thank you, I reckon I'm going to leave well alone.
  12. Thank you very much. I did think about that, and did briefly try it with my cordless so it'd work, but as it only goes forwards I'd have to take the mph one from 55,000 through past 100,000 and on to 28,000; that'd take 30 whole days at 100mph. So I was thinking of the possibility of taking the mileometer to bits and rearranging the cogs, but in reality I'd probably knacker it up. It was just a thought! Thank you for all the replies much appreciated. Regards, Brian.
  13. Brilliant! Thank you very much for replying. I was also wondering if anyone knows if it's it's possible to change the mileage on the 550 speedo? My bike has done (I think) about 44,000km, which equates to about 28,000 miles but the 550 speedo I've bought (I was 90% sure it was compatible at the time) has 55,000m on it. If possible I'd like the mileage to be correct for the bike. Is the mileometer part made in such a way to prevent this being done? "Clocking" and all that? Thank you again, Brian.
  14. Hi all, My first post on here I have a GS750 with a kph speedo, and would like to replce it with an mph one. Does anyone know if a GS550 one would be a direct replacement? It looks the same, and according to the (sorry!) Haynes manual the front wheel is the same. I've tried a search on here, but I couldn't find anything about this. Thank you, Brian.
