You can get a cable to digital converter thing apparently :/

SV650 have the front wheel worm drive but with wires coming from it instead of a cable, if that helps at all?

Just out of curiosity did you have a 750 head to compare to the 600?  was it that the head of the b6 had a shallower combustion chamber than the 750 do you think kind of like the dot head vs 11/1200 head different chamber size ?

I didn't, but I would think it's the b6 head that had a shallower combustion chamber. So using the b6 head with the 750 pistons would of bumped the compression up.

I never even rode the bike before I sold it :( as I got it running and the jetting somewhere need but it needed tyres etc but a mate offered me good money for it and I needed the space.

  3. I put a set of long stroke 750 barrels and pistons on a b6 motor (project see how far we go gs550 b6)

Used the b6 head but had to use two head gaskets so the pistons didn't touch. Apart from that it was a straight swap.

If it came to it again, I'd just put a 750 motor in it and just change the cc on the V5 and leave the engine number as is, because as you say the DVLA just make problems just for a joke

    Thanks Wraith,

If the GSX swing arm is 25mm longer, then I will probably wait for a lighter "right length" swing arm to come up. The GS is already long enough and doesn't need to be longer.

I may look at swapping the forks at some point, but for the time being I just want to ride it and swap wheels if it isn't too much of a pain.

APX 25mm someone will be along to give you a definite answer, or put a separate post/thread up just for the swingarm (y)

It would probably be quicker to swap the complete front end then just the wheel ;)

Ps, if you've read the rules (RTFR) you will know if you get 50+ post up it will open the for sale/wanted section. Then you can put a wanted post for all the bits you need and you be surprised what OSS people have in there garage/sheds ;)

  5. Welcome to OSS

If you want to keep 18" wheels, I'd look at swapping the complete front end off a gsxr slabside 750 or 1100. Be a easy straight swap (same Headstock bearings) then you get better forks etc but you may need  to alter the lock stops.

Yes a gsx1100 swingarm arm will go straight in like @TonyGee says and yes they are a bit longer, think APX 25mm. Yes the slabside  rear wheel will go in and I remember the chain run is not far out but I'm thinking back 30 years now and as I can't remember what I did yesterday xD

Most people will drop the forks through the yokes by 5-10mm to quicken up the front end instead of longer shocks (just because it's saves buy new shocks)

  6. You could have them welded up, then drilled and taped. Be cheeper than Timeserts

Timeserts are good but unless you're a garage they are expensive for a one off job.

Or if you have room between the calipers and discs just put a lock nut and bolt on, with thread lock. It's a bodge :o

Those are all good considerations. Thank you. He’s asking $4000. I think that sounds fair but maybe I’m wrong?

I'd say that's cheep for the engine spec, it wouldn't be far off that for all the mods.

Granted it's not the most popular model but cheep never the less.

  8. I think, I'd be asking the owner why he hasn't fitted a oil cooler with the size of big bore and cams etc

Has he had any problems with overheating?

And the big question, if all this work has been done (which will not of been cheep) why is he selling it for a, as you say a fair price. Don't know what you're calling a fair price.

  9. I'm not a expert on the 4v 1100 engine but you say it's been bored out to 1300cc, didn't think they did a 1300cc?

I thought the biggest you can go on standard barrels was 1260? May of had the re sleeved?

Also for a big bore engine, I can't see a oil cooler?

Yes the cam to cam links but no cooler.

  10. I had a set of b6 forks in a gs1000 and found the standard forks would bottom out, I put upgraded springs in (gsx600f witch, in the old days a nice upgrade for the b6) and went up to 20 fork oil. They where better but still not good.

Get a rf600 bottom yoke, fits the MK1 b6 forks etc and you don't need to change the stem, JUST fits the gsx/GS head stock.

  11. From what I've found,

All GS 2v and the gsx750 4v all use the 26mm ones (don't fit oil cooled engine)

Gsx1100 4v seem to use the 36mm ones but only the 1984 onwards (efe, es, ex type bikes) have the gear position. These fit the oil cooled engine if you (like me) want to use/fit a gear position indicator.

I was looking into this for two reasons.

    1. My gsx1157et has gsx750es clocks and id like the gear indicator to work (yes I know sad xD)

    2. Don't know if I like the aftermarket ones with the glued on bits, all seems a bit figgly ?

Not all oil cooled use a 26mm switch ....

early slingshots and blandits use a 36mm switch as we used an EFE one for a Nos trigger

and to confuse even more a lot of the modern water boiled sports bikes use 26mm switches for gear position :P

Mmm I thought all oil cooled used the larger 36mm ones, yet one more school day :tu

I wonder what the gsxr1100k is, will have to go and have a look.
