  1. Just checked on my "spare" GSX1400 engine:

The holes are M8,  58mm apart, exhaust gasket is OD 42.5mm, ID 32.5mm

The outside header diameter of my aftermarket / Akrapovic header is 40mm.

    Alternatively:

The GSX1100F engine i have for my upcoming ET project:

    Holes are M8, 58mm apart, gasket OD is 42.5mm , ID 32.5.

    However...

Pretty sure you need to slot oil cooled exhaust flanges to fit to an aircooled engine as in this picture20240326_190527.thumb.jpg.3e22147f6654fb484a1b5642692a4e10.jpg

  3. The nipple at the back of the petcock operates the valve by vacuum.

The vacuum is delivered by the running engine and is usually taken of a nipple fromnthe carburettor.

If you put the petcock on pri , you prime the carbs : fill them by hand.

If the PRI does not fill the carburettor some hoses are routed differently than intended.

It kind of sounds like you have connected the filler cap drain to the fule delivery side of the petcock but hard to tell without pictures.

Nah... doubtful. If so.. Jay has my permission to be my stand in. ( think i was his designated wingman after all )

Besides: If my goal was to disapoint two people at the same time... i will just visit my parents xD much less hassle.

It's funny though, here we are three finnish guys talking about flex fuel in english xD But this is very good info for all bike builders, so it is good to have this talk here (y)

Would a sauna be a better place for this conversation?

    :P

  6. A OEM wire loom of a stock 1985 suzuki does not have a Throttle Position Sensor.

    - what are you trying to do?

If you installed Bandit 1200 carburettor with a TPS ... Just leave it unplugged.

  8. Yup, we tend to ignore / reject the fact suzuki made a huge marketing mistake by putting katana decals on anything oil cooled on this very website.

Only the original - air cooled - early 80's is allowed to be referred to as a Kat or Katana.

In your case, just drop a different engine in it of a gsx1100F , the one with the electrical windscreen aka a "powerscreen"

  9. Another heads up:

You can access the marketplace after 50 post.

With your average of 17posts in a year.... you can unlock the treasure cave  in just under 3 years from now :P

Just think about how the price will have risen by then.xD

  10. It definitely is an aircooled 1100.

As it's black i would like to suggest to look for the 1983 to 1985 GSX 1100 ESD - the round tube frame version -  for the most results for parts and diagrams.

As for no spark. If they re-used the original / model specific CDI or ignitor unit ... that is now 40 years old , i would test that first.

I can not see it on the pictures BTW

  11. Grinding cams to suit is not that expensive in comparison to new Yoshimura cams.

Kent cams guoted me 270GBP a pair 10day turn around

    Piper cams quoted the same.

    New yoshimura cam were 700gbp

Mind you these are 2017 prices.

the way I tend to do it is, pick the parts I want to use and then figure out how to make it fit. theirs always a way ;)

    Same here,

I just got delivery of a pile of bits :

    shortened ET frame,

    gsx1100F engine,

    YZF front end,

    aprilia rims.

Pretty confident all i need to adjust is the fitment xD

I do own a angle grinder, a TIG and a MIG welder. The boss has a lathe and i know someone with a 20 ton press to swap the steering stem over. Some perks come with the years. ;)

Ps. I will start a project thread when it is time for this build.  First i need to clear out the shed and add some form of heating.

You'll only tell with a dry build - which would have been better done before decking the block. CC the chambers for definitive answer.

You may also need to check valve to piston clearances before building up for final time.

    <- this.

    Please do it.

It will save you a lot of time and money.

I checked for valve to piston clearance at 10° before and after TDC and still made an assuption error. I thought 1.5mm was enough on my application ( max 9000rpm )

    Please use 2.0 mm.

I did not and need 16 custom valves plus a new ported hheadand all the associated stuff.

run the scavenge for a few seconds when you go in there. My scavenge pump is wired to a  permanent live so I can run it for a few seconds before start up and switch off of the motor

Not everybody likes their bike to be nick-named " the woodpecker " :P

Probably easier to run a separate fuel pump instead of in tank like the 1400. Not a lot of room in the gsx 1100 without major mods. Also loose a bit of fuel capacity. Much easier to transfer bodywork to 1400 frame. But then it's a 1400 with 1100 bodywork on...again not that straight forward.

My next project is an ET with a 1400 engine. Very optimistic thinking i would like to start that project - and document  it here - this winter this year.

I still need to transfer the title but the ET is payed for and stored in my mates shed awaiting my free time B|

Still need to source a shit load of 14 stuff to have it running.

I am planning on using a 1st gen hayabusa fuel pump as they were external.

It was a great weekend. (y)

I wonder if the searches for turbos have gone up on eBlag today? xD

Oh and @Blubberthere was a good dribble of oil in the back of the van this morning from under the dust covers. So you were right, time to replace some fork seals I reckon. Still, they did get a bit of a work out. O.o:)

I was very tempted to rename this thread to Turbo Central or Bike of the Month central, the were 5 ? BOTM there :pimp:

  17. Yep, I too have had a cracking weekend.

It was really good to meet up with the ugly chapter of OSS ...again.  xD

Paul has already summarized it perfectly:

Clive is an absolute star for everything he did for us  B|  Nothing i can add to what has been said earlier.

    See you all "later"

....Hopefully next time without a Gazebo Chronical
