  1. Another evening in the garage. so none of the carbs line up with any of the carb rubbers on the dot head. the gsxr750j/k that I use as a run around has got bst40s on it...don’t think that’s standard, but the carbs seem to be space right for the rubbers on the other (problematic/project) bike, but obviously won’t take 40mm carbs. ive worked out the rubbers that were on the dot head originally were mk1 bandit 600 rubbers.. I have written down my carb gap measurement. and you can see the difference in the carb stubs. oh, and the bsr36 carbs pushed straight onto the 749 (not dot) engine. then logic would say use them rubbers on the dot head, but I already had a set of those rubbers and didn’t work
  2. Yes it’s a dot head from a gsxr on a bandit motor. When using the mk2 bandit rubbers the outer stubs 1 and 4 line up but the inner 3 and 4 don’t. Same with all sets of rubbers to be honest. in terms of other things getting in the way, the throttle cable bracket sits too high stopping the tank from going on. That’s the biggest problem..if I ever get them on comfortably. I’ll attach a couple of pics I nipped out and took before work. and over the weekend I’ll measure the carbs on a gsxr750 j/k I got and see how the bandit carbs line up against the long stroke 750 engine I got in the shed. I have a feeling it could be the dot head casting that is slightly different
  3. I have been in the garage every night after work this week trying to fit the mk2 bandit carbs on my b12 dot head, I have the original dot rubbers, the original b12 rubbers and 3 more sets of rubbers that I've purchased and no joy ive got a set of 40mm carbs with rubbers which won't suit the engine but tomorrow I will try fitting them to confirm the head spacing is 'unique ' which will be annoying if so as I've just ordered a set of 38s when I guess I may need dot specific... hmm
  4. It’s definitely the right stand. after a bit of searching around I think it’s the swingarm that’s making the bike sit real low at the back as@MeanBean49spotted. Was also running a 160 tyre on a 5.5” rim which wasn’t giving a lot of lean angle. made myself a pair of dog bones 15mm shorter that the ones on it bought what I thought was and original 4.5” rim off eblag with new 170 pilot power tyre. Turns out I can’t read and got another 5.5 but at least the tyre sits on it better now! went for a quick 20mins blast and feels way better at turning in now
  5. I did this, found a cheap B12 as a donor bike (mk2). i have used the rear shock. The front forks have different bearings in the headstock. I used the b12 wiring loom, and would have used the exhaust system but I used a 750 head and exhaust. if you can find a reasonable priced bandit go for it as the engines alone can be £500. All depends how bespoke you want to go.
  6. I’ll have to check it against the other one. Cheers guys
  7. I picked this up last weekend as it’s got a few bits I want for my project. Not sure if it’s come from anyone on here originally? I plan on using it for the rest of the year before I start pinching bits. Was a bit surprised to have the kickstand scrape the floor on a left handed the other evening is this common on slingshots? Is there anything I can do to make it higher as I down want to end up low siding down the road. Any suggestions appreciated
  8. I’m a bit baffled here. The j/k 750 had 36mm carbs. So the bandit 12 carbs I got should fit on my 750 dot head but they are no where near! oogled the numbers and look like they are off a bandit 6. Why would you put smaller carbs on a 750? I don’t get it
  9. Cheers guys ive ordered a set of v coil m7 thread insert kit so hopefully that'll sort it out.
  10. Evening all. I came very very close to making quite a costly armature mistake on my dot head build. Thanks to @Captain Chaosfor pointing out that cam caps are not interchangeable, the engine didn’t even turn with the wrong ones one. I am now set to fixing the originals by helicoil. Question is what size insert will it be? thread measurements are anything between 6.8-6.9mm. So m7?? Who uses M7s?
  11. Ah I see. Yes they are the b12 carbs. Bsr36ss if I remember right. literally just finished putting the engine back together and put these on as my last job. So won’t be taking the head off. Bit will look into doing some trimming next weekend. Cheers.
  12. That looks a much more natural flow
  13. It’s a dot head on a b12 by the way. Plannomg on using bandit 36mm carbs.
  14. Should I get the file out (or maybe buy a dremmel) to open up the holes to make the intake smoother? that step surely can’t be doing any favours?
  15. Afternoon all, I'm lacking expertise here now. (B12 engine with dot head to fit) Basically the the cam chain guide blade has snapped, on the tensioner side, about an inch above the tensioner. When i got the head off there was the top of the guide blade just sitting there happily detatched. Question is, can i leave it as it is? as the tensioner will still do its job? the cam chain will still go towards the cam sprocket surely? I dont want to seem like im cutting corners, i just worry about splitting the bottom end because its all new territory to me if its safe to leave i will, if not i'll have a go
  16. Will do probably. Be interesting to compare.
  17. Whilst the fork tubes are in the R1 yokes they are 3mm closer together than the gsxr forks sit in the gsxr yoke. So may need a tiny bit of work at the wheel to get the forks to sit in the gsxr yokes. Though i am considering trying the R1 yokes in the slingy frame.
  18. Cheers Oilyspanner. Ive been to size them up this evening. The tubes are exactly the same as mine 50-54 so would fit in my yokes. Seemed 5mm shorter by my measurements, they are still on a blade though. Only worry I have about putting them into my yokes is that the tubes are about 3mm closer together than mine. Enough to bind the callipers and/or unsettle the axle? I’m not sure. Ive made him an off and left it with him. If I get them I’ll keep this thread updated on the fitting.
  19. Going to size them up tomorrow. Other than tube diameter at the yokes, and distance between tubes at the yokes, is the anything else I need to be careful to measure?
  20. True that think they are 1990 GSXR usd forks.
