    On the track

    First weekend at the track on May 12th, unfortunately a little short lived. After three practice rounds the clutch started to slip badly and I had to retire. New clutch pack and springs installed and I’m waiting for the next round in June. If anyone is running 18” tires I recommend Avon AM 22 and AM 23 tires. They give great feel and seem nice and sticky. My local club doesn’t know what to do with my ‘85 Slabbie....in with the 600s or in with the 1000s. Mostly they don’t know what to do with a 34 year old bike and a 68 year old rider.

    Need help

    While removing the oil drain bolt I had a momentary brain fart and managed to strip the threads in the oil pan. I know, I know lefty loosey and righty tighty. What are my options besides buying another oil pan? Can the drain be re-tapped to accommodate a larger drain bolt?

    After working and fussing for most of the winter, my ‘85 Slabbie 750 is ready for the track. General cleanup, carbs rebuilt and cleaned, Twin Clicker Fox Shock and forks sent off to RaceTech for rebuild, re-spring and gold valve emulators. Finding 18” tires in Canada was the biggest hassle I had. Finally found some sticky Avon AM 22 and 23 tires in the States. I have left the engine untouched for now. The first couple rounds will decide if work needs to be done. My first race round of the season is May 11, 12. I can’t believe I’m mostly ready more than a month ahead!

  6. I’m still a little confused. What then is the function of the vent and hose running from the top of the engine to the air box?
  7. This is a newby race question, but why do I need a bigger crankcase vent than comes on a stock ‘85 Slabbie engine? I have seen many venting systems on race prepped bikes but have never understood the reason why when a venting systems already exists on the bike. If it is a good idea how should I run the vent hose?

  9. Good for you! I started racing in 2000 at the age of 51 and I’m still at it. Currently, I’m prepping a 1985 Slabbie for the next season of racing and track days. It is so much fun to dive inside and take a young squid on his tricked out 600.
  10. Recently joined this great forum after purchasing a 1985 GSX-R750. I’m cleaning the carbs and I don’t know what this fitting does. There is one linking carbs 1&2 and one linking carbs 3&4. I live in Killarney, Manitoba, Canada. Slabbies are rarer than hen’s teeth in this part of the world.
