  1. Ahh i thought the the affix applied to the finidh on the rings i.e xc chrome,xg gas treated. Etc etc.
  2. Well the 1260 kat now is running sweer as a nut with cleaned carbs and new taylor leads. But the f@#ker has now started puffing blue smoke when you open the throttle. New rings snd stem seals time me thinks. I aint done s comp check because i have'nt been able to borrow a comp tester yet.but my questions are. Can i use wiseco xc rings. Can i use cometic copper head gasket Are viton seals still the best. And who does that lot at the best prices. Thank you all in advance.

    ride to loomies

i plan going for a ride to loomies next saturday. anyone down south fancy a meet down there?
  4. carbs rejetted to 137.5 refitted and the new leads are on. good job to as the old ones where proper dying. they were fitted by the p.o and he had folded the core, over the top of terminal crimp instead of inside. also gave it an oil and filter change at same time. another p.o oversight, notiiced when lubing cable, was the fact that the clutch lifter lever clevis was a tooth out on the spline. causing the the cable to be pulled off centre and have bugger all free play or adjustment. sorting this made the clutch operstion a lot smoother. bike is running sweet, but may need to drop the needle a notch. but i think i may take it to the dyno to diagnose that. still looking around at a/f meters though.
  5. thanks for the tip. mains are currently 140. but have ordered a set of 137.5 to try out.
  6. ok sounds like a good idea as I have rs36 on my zed as well, any links anyone?
  7. Well the carbs are back from being ultrasonic cleaned and the new leads have turned up along with the denso plugs. Cleaned the pod filters but looking to get some stacks. Some pics along with one of the spsce where they live.
  8. will do sounds like a good idea. i was informed by a close friend of Leon Moss. he of LeDar fame. that the flat spot suffered is to do with the reflected waves back by the backplate of k&n type pod filters. And that the ramairs are more effecient due to the all foam free flowing struture and nature of the material. Also that velocity stacks and socks gives you the best of both worlds. still got S&B's on mine though as im a tightwad, and dont want to spend over a £100 on stacks and socks.lol
  9. i am probably being thick when i say this. but the 'wideband' you refer to is it regarding the spead of power the carbs deliver or a piece of tooling i am ignorant too. or somthing else entirely.
  10. had a couple of gs550's myself inc the kat version. motor bullet proof if looked after. i just serviced mine once a year regardles of miles covered. electrics such as reg/rec and alternator are crap but nothing that a superdream reg/rec and an electrex alternator wont sort out. And there a whole heap of fun to ride. soz but i never bother about fuel consumption when buying a bike as just dont care about it.
  11. ok thanks. but why the need to disable pump? only prob is i dont have an O2 sensor or an A/F meter. so will have to hunt down a workshop that has one or a dyno near Croydon.
  12. please keep me updated. didnt check air jet size. doh!
  13. i had one years back and loved it, stonking engine.
  14. the ignitech is a bargain compared to £360.00 dyna 2000. and the software is included to do the programming.
  15. hello chaps and chapesses anyone got some guidence for me on jet sizes and needle settings for my 1260 kat its got a flowed head and lumpy cams too if that makes a difference. the bugger stinks of fuel on the exhaust and the oil did too when changed. i think it must be running rich somewhere in the rev range. currently has 17.5 pilot 140 mains 3rd clip down on needle. accel pump set to start 1/4 throttle and stop at 3/4.
  16. your right about the length of the stacks. but who does them at the best prices.
  17. And if ya happen to have a z1000r knocking about for sale please let me know coz its on my shopping list.
  18. ok I have a dyna s ignition not as flexible as a 2000 but a good choice for a road bike. if I can get a good deal on a upgrade, its yours for 80 quid. I will also have a look in the shed of dusty parts, to see if I have a standard system knocking about. if someone has butchered the loom rebuild a new one not that expensive but very time consuming to make a good one.
  19. I do love an EFE the last one I had was a blue and white model on an 85 plate, they just look the epitome of a muscle bike. coz they are!
  20. could I get a set for my 1100 kat.
  21. Personally I would bin the ignition system and go dyna 2000 with coils and taylor leads.
  22. Just go for it big time and go with thw big bore, flowed head, cams and sprockets and lovley set of 36mm carbs. My kat is very rapid with this. check out the yoshi carbs expensive but very trick.
  23. You have just perfectly described my bike!
  24. Do they have a rally twice a year or something.
