Newbie with a GS1000 project. lots of info needed
andyroach replied to andyroach's topic in Air Cooled
Hi PanzerWomble (Great name by the way), I'll let you know about the wheels, but I'm pretty sure they are going (I may still have a set from a different GS1000 race bike I owned. Will have to have a ferret about under the welding bench). I've had a couple of NCC frames in my youth. I saw Al a couple of years ago, he's got a place near Bulwell and was building beefed up Kat frames for classic racing. The older guy, who's name I can never remember, works at Robin Hood Harley dealers as a mechanic - Yesterday

Not sure but think its a custom frame. Was built way back, 2005, might have been in Street Fighters. Really cool up-pipe and plenum set up, like a reversed header feeding the carbs. There's been very little info about it since it was first built.

Saw that one for sale on the 'bay . Was supposed to be a regular runner , how is it ? If you decide to swap out the wheels for something newer I might be interested in acquiring your old ones Any excuse for a trip to the Trip in Nottingham is welcome . I can still recall the exploits of Notts Custom Cycles back when men were men etc etc , and didn't need to "identify" & Welcome ! -

I think the GSX swinger is a tad longer but not sure ? but the pivot width is the same. the wheel goes in easy but the sprocket carrier needs machining down to get it lined up. not got the bandit engine in yet though. -

77 GS750 frame 95 Katana 750 engine - was a 78 GS1000 engine but that's in my 77 GS710 2002 GSXR suspension and shocks. zero frame alterations to get the suspension installed. All Balls steer bearing kit helped with the triple tree. The rear has a strut instead of a shock although it has been installed and ridden with it. I modified the engine mounts in the rear for the Kat engine obviously. I $50 bushing for the swing arm and I used the stock swing arm pivot bolt. moved the sprocket on the Kat out by 3/16" (the GS1000 engine needed a 5/8" offset sprocket) wheel base is almost the same length as I had measured it at one time. As of my last test... it's fast and fun and street legal. If you run the VM26's make sure you get the air correctors for the pods. OE air box as found on my GS710 -

Is the swing arm the same length? Does the Bandit wheel sprocket line up as well? Nice shocks by the way -

I'm building a GS1000 based project atm, it has a GSX1100 swinger that fits straight in with a bandit 600 wheel. -
Hi All, I'm new to the forum. I had a wander around before joining and was impressed with the level of knowledge, but above all the respect paid by everyone to each other. You guys set a fine example. So, I used to have a GS1000 street fighter, but before they were called street fighters, with a full Yoshi motor. Cams, 1260cc kit, welded crank straight cut primary gears, billet clutch, close ratio box and I threw so much cash at it, when I didn't have a lot of cash that it just had to go. I sold it for £800 at Newark autojumble in about 1999 as I was moving abroad. I've always regreted it and have now bought a GS1000 off Eblag last week (see picture). So first off, will Slabby GSXR 750 wheels fit in easily or are there any better/lighter wheels to fit, whilst still staying at 18"? How difficult is it to swap in a GSX1100 swingarm and is it worth it? Do people fit longer shocks to improve turn in and general flickability? I saw a great thread about brakes and have followed a link, so I think I have that covered. And now for the comedy question........Does anyone have my old engine and can I buy it back for £800? When I find a picture of my old bike I'll post a picture. You never know, someone may still have it. It was quite unique. Cheers Andy

Hi All, Got an 85 GS1150E (most GSX 1100 E,EF,EFE should be the same) with a strange location for an oil leak, Can anyone help me track down where I might be getting an oil leak from the lower tread section on the dowel pin as marked on the attached pic. Could there be an oil way leaking into the pin. Has any one had this problem.

Aprillia Mille RSV wheels into Gen 1 Hayabusa
Dezza replied to Jonny's topic in Water Cooled, V-Twins, Singles and 2-strokes
To clarify, do the discs of more modern Aprilias, e.g. RSV4, have the same hub fitting as the older bikes, which are the same as older Ducatis, Yamahas and KTMs? -
Probably needs a sticky

I think it might help if we know what bike

Would someone please be kind enough to give me the standard length of the slave cylinder side clutch push rod.

I’ve done this conversion a few times into TL1000’s which run the same wheels as the Busa. Theres 2 types of OZ wheels. The Gen 1 Forged OZ wheels have a narrower hub which is the same width as the Brembo Wheels. The Gen 2 OZ wheels have a stamped Rim with EVO written into them. Beware. There are also some Aprilia wheels that look like the OZ wheels but are cast alloy and not forged. They have then word Aprilia cast into them so ignore the OZ decals and look for the castings. OZ wheels have the word OZ stamped into the recess on the hubs. Borh wheels run 25.0mm ID bearings and the front can be made to fotttje TL/ Busa with 2 x spacers that recess into the wheel. You will need to shim out the discs as on the Gen 2 wheels the hub is a lot narrower. The Aprilia discs are offset where as the Busa / TL discs are flat. RSV / RSVR and RSV4 front discs are all the same so any will do. Gen 2 wheels need 2 x 2.0mm shims Gen1 and Brembo 5 spoke wheels need 3.5mm per side (irrc) Rear is a little more complex- Reay wheel bearings in the Busa are 28mm and 25mm on the Aprilia. No bearing swap is available so you need to shim the axle where it passes through the swingarm and the chain adjusters. A 2006 ZX6R axle is the right size. You will need to do 525 chain conversion or get Talon to do you a special rear sprocket in 530. You also need the complete rear braking system too. Caliper and Hanger. You need a custom spacer to the sprocket side and a 2.5mm spacer that fits between the swingarm and the caliper hanger…. I cut the caliper hanger down and use the Swingarm bobbin mount to fit the beak torque arm on the TL’s but the Busa shouldn’t be much different. good luck

Hello, fellow TL nut…. i know that bike. It used to belong to a mate of mine! The Yoshi systems defo improve the audio; however, try a full M4 system…. Holy shit these things bark!

It's leaking from the top cover plate on mine where the cable exits. The plunger seal is where it's leaking from unfortunately. I'll whip em apart when I get a moment. The bike had been off the road for 20 years. Rebuilt everything apart from the dive units which have lasted a year before showing signs of leaking. Only myself to blame lol.

I made a thing! Lunch time - google - office printer - old cd from pile of old cds = free timing wheel
-
I disconnected the hose to the calliper on one of my bikes and took the top part off, then made a plate to tidy it up, if you take the top off the antidive their is no fluid just a little plunger thing, but the plate just tidy's it up. zoom in on this pic. or click to get a clearer view.
-
Cheers, I'll have a look at them when I pop them apart and go from there. I would like to keep the anti dives if possible, although they aren't that great...but that is mainly for the look etc.
