Product Review by PerversePolisher Heavy Duty Engine Casings manufactured by Woodcraft
Supplied by BikeStuff - Tel: 07976 692594 (UK)
Having crash tested a genuine Suzuki engine casing, I really needed to replace it
with something a little tricker than the plain black standard item. Rich, from
Bikes, Trikes 'n' Stuff stepped in and offered me this little beauty made by
an american engineering firm called Woodcraft.
It is machined from a solid billet of aluminium, and comes in a natural aluminium finish.
For the perverts amongst you (that'll be me and Mr. 7/11 then) you can still see the
machining marks. One of the nicest features of these cases is the solid steel plate
that is easily replaceable in the event of a spill.

Basically, the plate will take all the impact (you can see exactly where it touches down
from my original crash test in the picture above). Then all you have to do is whip off the engine cover and
replace with a new plate. The plate is held in place with three allen head bolts from
the inside, meaning that the heads will never get damaged and the plate will be easy to
replace.

All the parts you need come in the box, this includes the cover, bash plate, retaining bolts,
gasket and full fitting instructions, that are simple to follow.
The only thing it doesn't come with is the permanent threadlock that it recommends you use
on virtually every bolt holding the stator, bash-plate and engine cover. |

It took me just over half-an-hour to fit this from start to finish, very easy to do - even
your average trained monkey could manage it. I have to say, I'm very impressed with this -
it looks like a bomb would struggle to break it. The quality is superb, it's lighter than
standard and looks very trick too! |

The price for one of these is usually around the £170 mark, but prices vary dependant on
application. The bash-plate only costs about £18 a time to replace (considerably cheaper
than a complete new cover). They are special order only, but delivery time certainly isn't
excessive. If you want one for your bike give Rich a call on 07976 692594
