What a fantastic day! Considering it was the begining of October, and
knowing the typical weather we get in the UK, we couldn't have asked for better conditions.
Just warm enough to enjoy a decent ride to DynoSpeed Developments in Chigwell, and cool enough
to get some decent horsepower readings.
DynoSpeed Developments is a firm favourite of the GSX-R7/11 "crowd" - former owner of the business
Bradley o'Connor built the first one. Have a look at the history HERE.
After a later-than-expected start, Paul organised us into a queue to start getting bikes run
on the dyno in as quick a manner as possible. Dopey John had decided to join us for the day, and
as he's not actually a site member (more of a face that most people seem to know) we decided to
get his "NewSkool" SUZUKI GSX-R750y run on the dyno first, followed by my GSX-R1000k2. That got
new stuff out of the way, so that we can spend the rest of the day concentrating on the proper
bikes.
Everyone took a guess of what sort of horsepower they reckoned their bikes were putting out - it
never ceases to amaze me how the figures that people guess are considerably lower than their
claims down the pub after a few pints. Even Wingnut graced us with his presence late in the day,
and after a little coersion, was persuaded to put his Yamaha R1 on the Dyno (after rolling out
every single excuse under the sun, "I'm low on oil", "it's got a leak", "I'm selling it and
don't want to risk it blowing up", "I've got no money", "it's a yamaha", etc. etc. After all that
Paul managed to persuade him, and up it went as one of the last runs of the day.
GSXRDel, wasn't going to leave until his GSXR600 Srad had broken the 100bhp barrier - he went home
happy after fitting a new exhaust-can sold to him by Banoffee - which unleashed a whopping 1.25
more horsepower ;-)
Anyway, enough writing, here's the results:

About halfway through, we took a short break for Matt of AirStream to demonstrate a
new "protection film" for bikes, it was very interesting, and quite astounding just
how strong this stuff really was, even more impressive was Matt breaking into a
massive sweat just trying to stretch the stuff to prove how indestructable this stuff
really is. If anyone is interested, you can give Matt a call on 020 8500 4685 - mention
this site and I'm sure he'll treat you well.
Paul (Grumpy) showed a few of us around his own GSX-based drag-bike..... still in awe
of it, even after a few days. Paul showed us a printed dyno run of it, but it went
off the graph! He overlayed it onto our bikes and you can see that our bikes make more power
for the first part of the chart, but then Paul's bike goes totally ballistic - keep an eye out
for him at all the UK and European Drag Events this year, and don't forget to cheer for him!
The day was finished off nicely with Wingnut leading a crowd of site members down to the Halfway
House pub just off the A127 giving them all his own unique impromptu stunt-show as they went.
Rumour has it that he beat a CB500 off the lights - so that should keep Brian quiet about
winning the NO-BULLSHIT trophy for 2 years in a row.
So a big thanks go to Paul of DSD for allowing us to abuse his dyno for the day. Thanks to
Matt of Airstream for his demonstrations through the day. Don't forget, if you need your
bike setup give DynoSpeed a call on 020 8500 5770 and you can be guaranteed of decent quality
service and sound advice AFTER your bike has had its neck wrung to within an inch of its
life on their dyno.
