Patrick's GSX-R7/11F Project

The seat unit

My mate Ludo worked at a car racing team, and knew a man who made polyester replicas of standard bodywork for racing purposes. He lent me a 916 seat first too look if it'd fit. The tank of the early GSX-R750 is relatively small because the frame beams run over the engine whereas modern beam frame run along the side of the engine, resulting in a wider tank. Therefore the 916 was too wide for my bike. We had also seen a 900SS seat unit in the look of a 916 item which was much narrower than a standard 916 item and when I fitted it it looked just perfect. It is much more angular which suits the rest of the GSX-R very nicely.
The front of the seat had to be extended because otherwise my butt wouldn't fit between the seat hump and the tank, and to make it fit snugly to the rear of the tank. I also had the back, where there was a gap for the square 900SS rearlight, closed so I could make my own shape of holes for the rearlight.
