NB
"for idiots" Disclaimer bit:
- This
info is provided as a "how to" ONLY, and was done outside
someone's garage with minimal tools & equipment to show how easy
it is to accomplish (and also 'cos that's the only
place we could find to do it at the time...)
- The
photos below show persons handling sharp bits of metal and tools in
a non-workshop environment, NOT wearing safety footwear, chain mail
gloves and, come to think of it, not wearing a full suit of armour with
a bubble-wrap oversuit either. This was my choice and if I got hurt
(which I didn't), I only had myself to blame...
- Only
you know how competent you are with tools, what you need to wear to
protect yourself while using them and where you should be using them.
If you injure yourself in ANY WAY while doing this project - IT'S NOT
MY FAULT! So don't bother sending your lawyer round on the double for
1 million compensation when you get a bit of swarf in yer thumb...
- In
fact, if you are that way inclined, just take it to the garage and save
yourself the legal & medical bills!
- This
info is provided as a "how to" ONLY
- by
scrolling further down this page you hereby agree, if you have a go
at it, not to send your Mum (or your lawyer either) round my house to
throw things at me if you do hurt yourself. Shall we continue now?

It would appear that I am not the only
one with this particular problem, it seems to be quite commonplace! GSX
1100 EFE / GS 1150's are very fond of blowing out the tail light bulbs.
One
solution that has come to, erm, light is to replace the stock items with more
modern LED bulbs - these are available from most local dealers for about 10
- 12 quid a time, are brighter than the stock item --- and, more importantly
just DO NOT BLOW OUT.
These
are a direct replacement, just take out the old bulb and put the new one in
- that's it. But for those of you who can't work out how to get at the bulb
holders... read on!

1.
Here's what you'll need - two bulbs and a 10mm socket (or 10mm ring
spanner will do).

|
2.
Firstly, remove the front part of the seat.
|
|
3.
Now undo the two M6 bolts using yer 10m socket / spanner...
|
|
4.
...then pull the side panels outwards to allows the side trims to
clear, then pull the rear part of the seat forwards and up to remove.
|
|
5.
To remove bulb holder, turn anti-clockwise / to the left and pull out...
|
|
6. ... do you really need me to tell you how to change a light bulb...?
Didn't think so...here's the stock item alongside the LED item.
|
|
7.
Work your way back through stages 5 - 1 to reassemble.
