TIP #2
When you fire
up your 1100 EFE (GS 1150) in the morning, does it make a horrendous
crash the first time you put it into gear? If you have a gravel
drive you may even kick stones up when you do...
Do this indefinitely and you will round off your gear selector dogs
for first - full engine strip time.
TO avoid
this: once it's started and ready to go:
- kill the engine (using the key is better than using the handlebar
killswitch in terms of ignition unit life)
- put it into first
- apply the BACK brake and hold in the clutch
- start the engine again
You will get a momentary lurch while the clutch frees off - but
no huge clonk, or gravel being spat all over your windows / car
/ partner. Then you are ready to ride, all smug in the knowledge
that you are being kind to your gearbox...until you find a spot
of open road and nail the throttle...:o)))
TIP #3
1100 EFE's (GS
1150) again... that 16" front wheel is a bitch innit! Wobbles
at the slightest provocation?
Many people swap 'em for a 17" GSX-R item (with matching
rear), but try this (read full lowdown in the roadtest,
I tried it and it works!):
If you grab on to the clipons and hold on like grim death, it
is far more likely to wobble than if you relax back into the seat
and use your body to hold your body weight up, not your arms...
That wheel is so sensitive that if you are wearing a loose jacket
that catches the wind (oversuit, MA1 etc) then coupled with the
aforementioned death grip this too will cause you avoidable speed
wobbles.
A relaxed stance with a leather jacket never wobbled me once when
I had mine!
