Mr.7/11's
compatibility list
Frames
and Engines
-
An old GSX750 and 1100 are the same framewise and are so big that
they will take allmost anything, but only EFE engines are a straight
fit if you're looking for an upgrade.
-
Any 750/1100 frame for an oil cooled engine will accept all big
oil cooled engines (GSX-R,Bandit,late GSX)
-
1100W engines drop straight into 750W frames... RF900 crankcases
also fit but the dowdraft heads make the carbs collide with the
upper frame beams. RF900 engine with 750W head will solve this,
but a complete 1100W is more sensible.
-
An SRAD600 has the same frame dimensions as a SRAD750 so both will
take a RF900 engine or a Hayabusa power plant, but both options
require some serious frame mods.
-
Cross-breeding oil- and watercooled engines can be done but will
take some frame mods.
-
Fitting late model engines (SRAD, Hayabusa, GSX-R1100) in early
frames is a problem. The cylinders are angled forward so the exhaust
pipes will collide with the frame and as the carbs/injection points
upward they will hit the top beams of the frame cradle.
Check
engine and frame
specs for more info.
Carbs
and exhausts
-
Cylinder spacing between prehistoric air cooled's and oil cooled
engines is the same so carbs and exhausts can be swapped, but usually
a 750 exhaust (though the port diameters match) collides with the
oil sump on a 1100 because the head is taller on those.
Exhausts from oil-cooled engines fit the exhaust ports of air-cooled
GSX's but you need to make sure the collector clears the oil sump
(see figure below).
-
Oil cooled 750 heads have their intake port more angled upward (downdraught)
which make carb to top framerails clearance a problem.
-
An oil cooled 1100 engine (and Bandit ofcourse) can be converted
to a cable-operated clutch using the sprocket cover from a GSX600F,
you may need to shorten the actuator pin.
-
Cylinders on water cooled engines are more narrowly spaced so you
can't use carbs/exhausts from earlier models.
-
A bigger carb can often be persuaded into smaller manifolds by heating
the manifolds with a hair-dryer and using some lube.
Wheels
and forks
-
You can fit any Suzuki front end to any Suzuki frame no problem,
so fitting a GSX1100S with a GSX-R1000 front end requires a headbearing
change at most.
-
CBR600 fit this picture also, straight fit, but don't know about
any other models because most GSX owner treat Honda's like the plague
(and rightly so ;-)
Kwacker front ends should be quite easy too.
Check
the wheel compatibility
list for rear wheel info and if you don't want to swap forks.
