Bandits, they crop up for discussion from time to time on OSS. Are they interesting? Are they not? Bike cleaning. Some people hate it and some people love it. I personally love the end result and have made a living out of this for a few years with very happy customers. Here’s how I do it, there are of course more / alternative methods however this works for me as an overall approach: Get the bike up on a bench so you can work comfortably. With me being from The Continent, I live a bit of a different life than most of our members, as about 90% of you, are from the UK. In the UK there’s a racetrack, an abandoned airfield or a drag strip usually not more than an hour away from wherever you are, at legal speeds even. For us, it’s quite the opposite; from my house, the closest proper racetrack is 2 and half hours away. Some of you may know of my fascination with Eighties Movies; I absolutely love them. To be honest, I’m not totally sure why myself; could be the cars, the music, the girls, anything. Build it, run it, break it, fix it then repeat. The life of a drag racer can easily be likened to that of a drug addict. They spend all of their available cash and time working towards their next fix, even if it means ignoring the trivial things like food, clothing and sleep. Don’t pick it, it’ll never heal. The wound is generally more impressive than the scar it could potentially leave, this trick framed oil boiler looks more than tough enough to take what would appear to be a backhanded ‘pimp slap’ compliment on it’s chin. The faculty of judgement. Come on, tell me you don’t like that front end combination of chunky loominum hooped spokes, 6 pot Pretechs gripping early Suzuki discs iced (white) with a perfectly proportioned mudguard, and a period ‘cherry on top’ fork brace? Well I do. I like the big negative space (once obscured by the side panels) that now accentuates that positive 8 valve flatty draining 1085 cubic centimetre’s of OSS.
