Bike of the Month January 2018

Unicorns and cannon balls and Aquagenic urticaria Here at OSS.info we have our ‘sections’, and of all these the newest kid on the ol’skool block incorporates the water girls and water boys. Their choice of OSS machinery would, to the untrained eye, appear to be frowned upon and the butt of our communities ‘real ol’skoolers’ jokes, almost as if they’re are just about tolerated. Madb didn’t let this ‘strange arrangement’ phase him, and got on with sharing the pursuit of his own wet dream in the mother of all sections.. ..’projects’.. We all love this section and the numbers prove this, so jumping in at … Continue reading

Do more things that make you forget to look at your phone.

Now that it’s the end of the year, we have some time for reflection. In the current day and age, everything is about numbers; how fast is your car, how expensive is your house, how many likes does your selfie get and how many friends do you have on Facebook? Our OSS-world is “sort of” the same; numbers are an easy way to measure if you’re doing something right. As it is now, Facebook and other readily available social media run the world; a lot of people are just not bothered about putting in any effort at all online, because … Continue reading

Bike of the Month December 2017

Lists, we all have them; shopping lists, to-do lists, bucket lists. Stuff you “need” to do/buy/build before a certain time. When you then, in your waking life, don’t get the chance to tick off some of your most desired points on your list, if you’re really lucky, it sometimes happens that some of your friends will do it for you, in your honour and in your memory. Craig Smith is such a friend. We know Craig as one of our like minded Down Under members who has made VERY good use of what Pops Yoshimura and Wes Cooley started in … Continue reading

The Most Wonderful Time of the Year

OK, so maybe not quite as wonderful as that first start up after a long engine rebuild! Or eagerly awaited trick bits turning up in the post. Or lining up for the 1/4 mile or a track day. Or finally getting your jetting spot on… I could go on. Anyway, it’s that time of year again soon. You know, the time to sneak off from family/sprouts/other responsibilities into the shed to ‘get some more beers’ whilst secretly spending ages looking at your bike / pile of bike parts. The time to make plans for the new year to finish or maybe start that project. Oh, and … Continue reading

Sisters are doing it for themselves…

In our first year since creating the oldskoolsuki’s Winged Hammer race team we’ve issued the hallowed and exclusive Winged Hammer livery to a full range of competitive racers including world record holders, Isle of Man Racers, straight-liners and drag racers. They all have one thing in common; Their weapon of choice is an old-kool-suzuki. Here’s a story from from one of the team. Go Winged Hammers! Words of Anna; Winged Hammer, Drag Racer; This all started in July 2015 with a day out at North Weald, where I took my old Z900 up a drag-strip for the first time ever, … Continue reading

Bike of the month November 2017

If you want to shed a few pounds, some say the best way to do it is to cut down on your carbs. Apparently, if you’re really serious about getting all lean and mean you need to cut carbs out of the equation completely. Now personally, I use whacking great RS36s on both of my big inline four Suzukis, which might explain my shrinking leathers- or not… Anyway, here at oldskoolsuzuki we are purveyors of the philosophy that 80’s and 90’s Suzuki muscle bikes can be improved, while preserving their adorable  “fuck you” characteristics, by doing clever things with parts … Continue reading

Bike of the Month October 2017

The king of Babylon, his fingers and the number of the beast….. ….and oxygen, and allotropes of carbon, and Leary’s model, cervical nerves, a byte, a fully lit seven-segment display, an ‘mericun cup, the Dharmacakra..and…urm i’ll stop with how i started before i start listing all that is weird up the Corinthian caulicole of religious curiosities, that’s right this episodes B.OT.M. is brought to you by the number 8. Although no longer an ‘8 valver’ doubling them up obviously (and mathematically) takes nothing away from this black suited 80’s doorman of a bike, man it’s got some presence, it looks purposeful yet somehow simple……..urm again i’ll stop before them … Continue reading

We Love Projects

Projects, we fucking love them here on OSS! We can’t get enough of them… sharing build progress, inspiring others, building great OSS bikes, solving problems, unique solutions, riding the finished article etc is what OSS is all about. Or are they ever really finished? Just like when you were at skool, the end result will only get you so many marks… we like to see your working out too! Fact is, the Projects section of the OSS forum is by far the most posted in section of them all and for good reason too. At the time of writing there are over 15,000 posts! Air cooled, oil cooled, … Continue reading

Bike of the Month September 2017

Goodbyes are never easy but they make for a good occasion to honour something or someone that has done OSS (very) proud. Let me fill you in… Maxwin stumbled on the scene in January 2016 mid-development of his 750ET after having competed in the 2015 season of the Earlystocks championship. Having cobbled together the bike for 2015, the early days of 2016 were there to fine tune the bike and get it all working a bit better, looking a bit nicer and going a bit faster. As with pretty much every build I’ve ever seen on OSS, thing spun a bit … Continue reading

The quality is remembered long after the price is forgotten

At the beginning of August oldskoolsuzuki took a stand at the VJMC show at Donington. I decided I would go down for the weekend and hang around drinking beer and looking at bikes. As the weekend progressed and my bike ogling and beer drinking continued I began to reflect upon how much my personal opinion on what constitutes a desirable bike has changed over the last 25 years. Looking back to when I was in my 20s  my opinion was driven almost entirely by 1. Aesthetics and 2. Affordability. If I liked the way a bike looked and it was … Continue reading
