Crank cost me £900 in total. Took us a while to find someone who's experienced in them, but got some advice from Sean at big cc, about somebody who does them for drag bikes with the same engines etc. Understand about the twisting and keeping revs under control but figured whilst I'm there might as well get it done! Bearings were actually fine, but it's coming up 40 years old, and I've refreshed practically everything, so no point skimping on the crank. Better doing it right than doing it twice!

Slowly coming along. Engine now vapour/bead blasted, come back very nice. Crank should be back tail end of January. Took forever to find a place that'll guarantee the weld. Full replacement of bearings. Bloody pricey! Boreing up to 1180cc. Also came across this. Not sure how accurate it is, but apparently only 3 GS1100X are active in the UK? Doesn't sound right to me but https://www.carlogbook.co.uk/suzuki/gs1100x/
  3. It's more the stopping distance is seriously bad. 120 ft at 60 mph. I guess I'm more used to modern bikes which seem to be far better. I just want something with a little more oomph, especially considering the weight of the bike. 2 pots would be more than adequate I feel. The problem is, it doesn't stop hard and fast in an emergency.
  4. 1100 ET yes! I'd like to retain the original front forks if possible, and front wheel as I've just had them reconditioned/cleaned/wheels powdercoated. Plus want to retain as much originality as possible. Making it more difficult for myself doing the above I assume? Thanks @Swiss Toni
  5. Hi all, Rebuild of the GSX is going well. WIll update my thread shortly with more up to date photos. However, I'm looking at improving the braking. The back I probably won't touch, but I'd like to at least upgrade the front to dual pots. I had a quick search through the forum, but think I may be blind as couldn't find anything, but I'm sure I've read before. Anyway; 1. any recommendations on calipers that I can use to increase the braking on the bike as stock is bloody horrendous. (And considering I'll be boring it to 1280, feel it's a necessity!) 2. Any other recommendations on what to do to the front end, whilst retaining the original forks? 3. Last question is, any recommendations on where to get hold of an adequate crank, that I can get welded? I can use my original, but will need new bearings which cost a bloody lot. I'll need to get it welded as well, as believe they're prone to twisting if you bore the engine. Thanks

I've been told that if you do put a big bore on, you also need to get the crank welded to stop any twisting. You had any experience with this? The plan for mine is to bore it out, and go up a size slightly but also need to get the bearings redone on the crank as well. Pretty costly, around £180 each, and 6 are needed. Does that sound right?

You'll probably hear those before I do! Please send a video once you've got them fitted. I'm desperate to hear what mine sound like, but likely won't be for another month or so! Damn his exhausts look good!
  12. Love the harris pipe. Where'd you get it from? Or original one on it? Just had a custom stainless made in a similar shape to the harris as couldn't find an original, and mine was a bit mullered.
