Got new fork tubes a few weeks ago, to replace the bent originals. Then I got my emulators to modernize the ancient forks New tapered head bearings installed With the added emulator parts, and the 1.5 inch drop spacer, I had to cut my springs to get the right preload. Bike now sets level, instead of the nose high attitude most dirt bikes have. Now it’s time to get serious about the rebuild of the engine.

Took my frame/swingarm to get sandblasted this past Thursday. A shop around the block from where I work, does industrial powder coating…and sandblasting on the side. Will be a few weeks till it comes up on its cue, and then I will take it to work and get the bits painted. Also was able, after about a 6 month search, to find an aluminum lower triple clamp from a 74 TM400… to replace the bent heavy steel original from the TS…

Swingarm is too narrow for that. The springs would get in the way of the caliper/sprocket, and would not be able to line up with the mounts on the frame as needed. And I don’t really want to cut it up.

Picked up a CalFab swingarm a while back, but once I won the bid…I came to realize it was originally for a Kwak, although it was on a GS1000 at the time. It will work, but I won’t be able to use my time period correct Fox shocks. Hard to say right now if I’ll use it or not…have TS/TM400 supermoto project that has to get done first.

I had one that I gave up on 72 frame and engine, 82 GSX1100 swingarm, 86 GSXR1100 front end and rear wheel…. After picking up the engine a couple times, I figured I would build a RGV250 that weighed about the same as the GT engine itself, and modified could produce better power. -
Soda blasted the cases and cylinder today. Trying to decide if I want the engine all black as original, or to polish out all the covers, and edges of the fins to brighten up bike a little. need to make a new bracket for the exhaust also, now that I know exactly where it fits up to. Also got all my trans bearings and seals, and my gaskets should be here by the weekend.

Trying to get motivated, and start working on the TS again… …mounted tires onto the wheels, and balanced and trued them up. Fit them to bike to verify that I have clearance for chain and front brake torque arm. New Mikuni 34mm carb, NOS cables, and bike specific jets, to replace the 32 High end dual spark ignition to basically replace just about all the electrics, gain peace of mind along with more HP.

Had a chance to take the VJ23 out for a vintage ride around some lakes in Michigan last month, still runs beautifully….helped me remember why I love it so much.

Engine is out….original piston still installed….all looks good but will be completely rebuilt regardless. differences between TM and TS cylinders … bigger intake port on the TM Taller deck height on the TS as well as the compression release valve and exhaust port flange. The TM and TS use the same piston and head, the lower deck on the TM is where the higher compression comes from. As well as bigger ports inside the TM400 cylinder compared to the TS400 ____________
