ccroaker Posted January 19, 2018 Share Posted January 19, 2018 hello guys.. have a 1977 GS750.... when the fuel tap is on its near impossible to start when cold.... but if the tap is on prime its starts first time... leaving the tap on prime does it cause any problems....i think ... i only think the tap is a vacuum type tap....whats the difference between this and an ordinary tap..... dont be too harsh if this is a stupid question....thanks anyway Quote Link to comment
Jaydee Posted January 20, 2018 Share Posted January 20, 2018 Vacuum from engine pulls back a diaphragm inside the tap letting the fuel free flow (just like prime). Shut off engine and the diaphragm shuts off the passages the fuel is flowing through. Sounds like you need to take apart the tap. Might be a blockage (rust/debris/paint flakes stopping the fuel. Might be no harm ordering a rebuild kit for your tap. They're fairly cheap. Quote Link to comment

wraith Posted January 20, 2018 Share Posted January 20, 2018 As above, clean tape/get a rebuild kit, check the hose is in good nick. Best way, take tank off remove vac pipe from carbs (smaller one) attached to tape, put other end of pipe in mouth and suck, if fuel comes out of tape its OK Make shore the breather hole in the cap is clear as this can stop the fuel from flowing Quote Link to comment
