What are your concerns  with knurling ?   This process is used in industry all the time . there is NO way you will have issues for your application...... if the stem clearances are within .030 .

Had a slabby stem knurled and put it in the R1 front end I had in my Slingy then the ET, the stem lasted about 8 years with the knurling then started to have a little play in it so I had one made to fit, either way works fine in my opinion but I would rather just have one made these days. Stems are not that expensive to have made, the one in my ET was £60 if I remember correctly.

If you want to be flash, machine it in ally and save a load of weight too. Weight saving more then you would expect.

Cheaper option done on other models not to mention for friends weld up and remachine.

If you press it properly you wont butcher it.

Knurling to make up a 1mm (40 thou) difference in what should be and interference fit is not in my black of good practices yes I know it been gone and worked but not one for me most likely going to have a new stem  turned and pressed in with correct clearance .... or may just add a bit in the middle of the stem ....... ;)
