  1. I've seen Martin's bike in a couple of magazines. Conveniently, he lives across the straight from me in Vancouver so it wouldn't be a job to go see him... thanks for reminding me of him!
  2. A friend has a '94 RF600R that he parted out a while back and sold the engine out of. Most everything else is there sitting on shelves in a semi-trailer on his farm which got me thinking about what could be done with it all. I've heard of RF900R engines being put in 600 frames, as well as GSXR-1100 engines being thrown into 900 frames (using the narrower RF head, of course) so I'm wondering how tough it would be to put a GSXR1100 bottom end with an RF900 head into the RF600 frame. Could be a potent combination, or a total frankenbike... Anyone with experience in RF swaps here? Love to get your thoughts.
  3. I will forever live in infamy, at least in the basement of the Gas Turbine Lab.... Nice to see you on OSS, Roger!
  4. Bike was originally a dark metallic blue with med blue/light blue stripes, quite attractive but just doesn't have the visual pop I'm looking for. Leaning towards red with red/orange stripes, or a variation thereof. Having said that, darker would fly under the radar better than arrest-me-red... decisions!
  5. Stripped the bodywork off for paint... only trouble is, not sure what colour to go with! I have some ideas but nothing set in stone at this point. To be honest, I have no idea how anything on this bike is going to end up... so many possibilities! It is a winter project though so time is on my side... a buddy of mine recently parted out an RF600, the front end and rear wheel of which would be an easy swap... parts I can get for free, if I wished. Not true hot rod stuff but even the lowly RF had better brakes than the GSX! Brainstorming is half the fun, looking forward to the winter!
  6. Got her running last week, no brainer to make that happen. New plugs installed, popped in a spare battery, filled the carb bowls up and vroom! Started on the choke first try. Awesome. The new fuel tank arrived today from a friend of a friend... thing is mint inside and even the paint looks pretty good. Such a deal! Placed it in situ for a pic, still needs the sender, petcock, etc installed but that's what "winter" is for.
  7. ... they always follow me home! With a friend of mine having recently convinced me to sell him my beloved 80 GS1100E restomod... when I was drunk... and high (I have a prescription)... and maybe comatose (why does my ass hurt?), I was empty nesting in GS-land. That changed quickly when I scooped up this 81 GS1100E for a screaming deal. "Just get it out of my garage" were the magic words, some cash exchanged hands and next thing I knew, I had this winter's project taken care of. Yay me! She needs TLC, the bike had been off the road for three years. The saving grace is it was given the necessary preparation for its slumber... fresh oil, battery removed, carbs drained, fuel tank drained (and sent for paint, and lost by the paintshop... anyone have a spare tank for me? ??? ), etc. Besides the tank, there are some missing parts... indicators, seat grab rail, half a pillion footrest bracket (sawed off... can't explain)... some in need of replacement... cracked tail light lens... but I did get a Rubbermaid full of stuff, just not the stuff I think I need. Time will tell. Bike is cool though. Decent engine (1135cc big bore, Yosh Stage 2 cams, 33mm smoothbore carbs, Supertrapp exhaust... custom underbraced Katana swingarm, push/pull throttle, yadda yadda. Should pull pretty hard I'd imagine, never had an 1135 before. Might feel tame compared to my 1340-powered commuter however... meh, it's going to be a blast!
  8. I am looking deeper into an '86 GS1150ES that I checked out over the winter... $500 and it runs. The ES though, yuck. Wondering how hard to make it an E....
  9. If you don't find a naked Hayabusa interesting, you need to check your meds! Lol!
